welcome to my little corner of the botanical world

BlackTree Apothecary is a collection of products that are very personal to me. It has grown from my love of plants, my training in herbalism, my connection to Nature and the satisfaction I get from turning plants I've grown into healing products that you get to enjoy. Many of the plants in this collection have been grown in my extensive gardens, hand harvested and carefully prepared before becoming part of the finished product.

Jo McGregor

Founder of BlackTree Apothecary

I have always felt most at home with my hands in the soil, and my love of Nature has led me to spend years growing medicinal plants and food in my garden, learning their individual qualities, following the seasons and developing a deep respect for the plants.

My journey into herbalism has included formal herbal medicine training, along with years of hands-on experience growing, harvesting, drying and preparing botanicals. I love the process of taking a plant from the garden and carefully transforming it into something useful — an infused oil, a herbal tea, a vinegar, a balm or another simple botanical preparation.

I believe there is something incredibly valuable in making plants part of our everyday lives. Used correctly, both internally and externally, botanical preparations can become beautiful daily rituals that support the way we care for ourselves, nourish our bodies and create moments of joy and calm.

BlackTree Apothecary is a natural extension of that belief. It brings together my love of Nature, my herbal knowledge, my experience with botanical preparation and the simple pleasure I find in creating things by hand.

The name comes from an Ash tree that appeared from nowhere, has grown magnificent and strong, and has really made its presence known in the garden. It has lovely dark, smooth bark along with black flower buds and clusters of dark flowers. It represents the interconnectedness of life and Spirit, unity of humans and Nature, wisdom and balance.

Everything begins with the plants, and everything I make is created with the same care and respect that I have for them.
